Food and housing have risen more than most other items over the past 12 months, but food prices did fall by 0.4% in June from the previous month. The housing market continues to cool, but still rises slightly further, mainly due to inflation affecting imputed rent, import-cost inflation and wage changes.

The figure shows the development of the significant components of the index over the past 12 months:

The most significant contributors to the rise in the Consumer Price Index remain food and drink, along with the housing, heating and electricity category. The year-on-year change stands at 11.1% for the former and 10.9% for the latter.
