Nature scattered salmon hundreds of kilometres

Arev staff wrote an article in Vísbendingu about the distribution of salmon in rivers after a release event in Kvígindisdal last summer. It emerged that the salmon spread westwards and eastwards from Patreksfjörður.

The map shows the distribution of the salmon across the fishing beats (rivers), and the 457 salmon shown were caught and their distribution is from http://www.strokulax.is. Of the salmon, approximately 22% went west, while 78% went east. The median distance travelled by salmon heading east was 268 km, whereas for those heading west it was 171 km. More fertile rivers are located on the east side, and the ocean currents also flow clockwise around the country.
